By Team @ RFP • October 23, 2020 • Comments Off on Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia with approximately 55 people diagnosed every day!  So, what is Breast Cancer? Breast Cancer is the abnormal growth of the cells in the breast. These cells grow uncontrollably and have the potential to spread to other parts of the body.

Some factors may increase your risk of developing Breast Cancer, this includes:

  • Increasing age
  • Family history
  • Inheriting the ‘Breast Cancer Gene’
  • Exposure to female hormones (natural and administered)
  • Obesity
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Lack of physical activity

Early detection of Breast Cancer will allow for the best possible health outcomes. Changes to look for include:

  • A new lump or lumpiness, especially if it is only in one breast
  • A change in the size or shape of your breast
  • A change to the nipple, such as crusting, ulcer, redness, or inversion
  • A nipple discharge that occurs without squeezing
  • A change in the skin of your breast such as redness or dimpling
  • An unusual pain that does not go away

If you have any of the above symptoms/concerns, do not delay in booking an appointment with one of our friendly GP’s here at Rochedale Family Practice.
